Earthquake - A sudden release of energy in Earth's Crust.
Elastic Rebound- tectonic plates are slowly moving, their edges are locked in place, causing bending of the crust along the plate edges.
Focus- place in the earth where the earthquake busted or fault movement really took place.
Epic Center- point on the Earth's surface that is directly above the hypo center or focus, the point where an earthquake or underground explosion originates.
Seimology- the scientific study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth or through other planet-like bodies.
Seismograph- a machine to detect & measure earthquakes.
Magnitude- the relative size of an object.
Intensity - In physics, intensity is the power transferred per unit area. In the SI system, it has units watts per metre squared.
Tsunami- series of water waves caused by the displacement of a large volume of a body of water, generally an ocean or a large lake.
seismic gap - a section of a fault that has produced earthquakes in the past but is now quiet.
